A woman from Morehead City has been charged with driving while impaired (DWI) following a head-on collision that injured four people in Carteret County. Authorities have identified the driver as 33-year-old Lana Wanner.
The crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 24 and Hibbs Road. According to state troopers, Wanner was traveling east when she entered a turn lane and collided head-on with a pickup truck. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and resulted in multiple injuries.
Law enforcement officials charged Wanner with several offenses, including DWI, careless and reckless driving, operating a vehicle with an open container of alcohol, and driving with an expired registration. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities assess the full extent of the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Emergency responders transported Wanner and the three individuals in the pickup truck to Carteret Health Care for treatment. While all four sustained serious injuries, medical professionals confirmed that their conditions were not life-threatening.
