HOLYOKE, Mass. – A routine quality-of-life check in Holyoke turned into a major drug bust, leading to the arrests of two men and the seizure of a significant amount of narcotics.
Last Monday, officers patrolling South Bridge Street made a startling discovery—nine bags of heroin and fentanyl abandoned on a porch. As authorities investigated the find, they were called back to the area just hours later for reports of a possible firearm.
Upon arrival, multiple individuals fled the scene. Among them was 28-year-old Jonathan Vergara, who ditched his bicycle and jumped fences in a desperate attempt to evade capture. His escape was short-lived, as officers eventually tracked him down on Cabot Street. A search revealed Vergara was carrying fifteen bags of heroin, with five more found along his flight path.
The following day, police were back in the same area conducting property checks when they encountered 33-year-old Francisco Morales of Springfield. Morales, upon spotting the officers, attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. A search revealed he was in possession of more than 60 vials of cocaine and nearly 100 bags of heroin and fentanyl.
Both men now face multiple drug-related and trespassing charges.
Authorities continue to crack down on drug activity in the area, emphasizing their commitment to improving public safety. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity as police remain vigilant against the ongoing battle against narcotics in Holyoke.
