LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In a shocking development, a Louisville tire shop owner and his son were arrested as part of a large-scale ICE operation targeting undocumented immigrants in urban areas.
According to authorities, 54-year-old Humberto Avila-Duran and his 28-year-old son, Humberto Avila-Murillo, were taken into custody at In and Out Tires on Preston Highway on March 13 during “Operation Take Back America.” The operation involved multiple federal agencies, including ICE, HSI, ATF, DEA, and the FBI.
Avila-Duran, a Mexican citizen, had been deported seven times between 2011 and 2020 and has a criminal history including assault, theft, OWI, and drug trafficking. He was arrested after being spotted leaving his business. Police then encountered his son, Avila-Murillo, who claimed U.S. citizenship but failed to provide valid identification. Authorities later determined he was undocumented and in possession of multiple firearms.
Both men were booked at Oldham County Detention Center. If convicted, Avila-Duran faces up to 17 years in prison, while Avila-Murillo could serve up to 15 years.
This high-profile arrest is part of an intensified federal crackdown on undocumented immigrants with criminal records across the country.
