A tragic family dispute in Hoover, Alabama, ended in violence when a man allegedly shot and killed his sister during an argument.
Police responded to a home on Jasmine Way around 8:10 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, after reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found 55-year-old Rosalind Barclay outside the house, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was rushed to UAB Hospital but sadly did not survive.
The suspect, 40-year-old Jonathan Arthur Barclay, was already in custody when police arrived. An off-duty state law enforcement officer, who happened to be nearby, detained him before officers got there.
Investigators say Rosalind had come to Jonathan’s home that morning, and the two got into an argument. The fight moved outside near her car, where police say Jonathan grabbed a gun and shot her multiple times. The reason for their argument remains unclear.
Neighbors recalled hearing around six gunshots at the time of the incident. This marks the first homicide of 2025 in Hoover, a city just outside Birmingham.
Jonathan has been charged with murder and is currently being held without bail at the Hoover City Jail. He is expected to be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail soon, though severe weather in Alabama, including tornado and hurricane warnings, has delayed the process.
