Local prosecutors have charged a Springfield man in connection with the drug overdose death of a Bloomington woman last summer. The suspect, 34-year-old Lonnie I. Williams, faces a charge of drug-induced homicide, a Class X felony, along with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.
The victim, 32-year-old Kaitlynn Lovel, was found dead inside a mobile home on Beta Street in Bloomington on July 30, 2024. According to court documents, she had taken what she believed to be heroin. Investigators say Williams admitted to selling her the drug, which was later determined to contain clonazolam, a synthetic narcotic. A final autopsy report confirmed that Lovel’s death was caused by the drug.
Authorities searched Williams’ residence and reported finding clonazolam, which contributed to the case against him. His arrest adds to an already existing set of drug charges filed against him a month after Lovel’s death. Since August, Williams has been in custody at the McLean County Jail, awaiting trial for nine separate felony drug charges. These include accusations of delivering methamphetamine, ecstasy, and cocaine.
Williams is scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial hearing related to the earlier drug charges on March 3. His arraignment for the drug-induced homicide case is set for March 7. Prosecutors continue to build their case against him as he remains in custody.
