In a violent confrontation, Agents Coler and Williams were tragically shot in the head at close range. Leonard Peltier, a Native American activist and member of the American Indian Movement, was convicted of their murders in 1977. The defense has always argued that evidence was falsified.
At the age of 80, Peltier was granted a commutation by Biden on Monday, freeing him from the two life sentences he was serving. However, this move has reignited a fierce debate over justice, accountability, and the impact on the families of the fallen agents.
