A 23-year-old Florida woman is behind bars after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend’s dog multiple times. The shocking incident happened in Spring Hill, a community on Florida’s Nature Coast, which is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro area.
According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the attack took place late in the morning on December 29. Around 10:42 a.m., 911 dispatch received a call reporting that a woman was repeatedly stabbing her boyfriend’s pit bull inside their home on Rusk Circle.
Deputies rushed to the scene and spoke to several witnesses, including family members and a friend of the family. Witnesses said the woman, identified as Megan Lynn Mileskiewicz, ran out of the house through the back door after the attack.
The deputies didn’t have to search long. They found her hiding face-down behind a tool shed in the backyard, surrounded by bushes. When Mileskiewicz refused to follow commands to come out, deputies had to physically remove her from her hiding spot and take her into custody.
The dog, a two-year-old pit bull, suffered two cuts about 2-3 inches long on his backside. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening, though they were actively bleeding when deputies arrived. After being treated, the dog, referred to in the court document simply as “dog,” is expected to recover.
When questioned by deputies, Mileskiewicz reportedly admitted that she stabbed the dog. She explained that the animal was “bothering” her and that she got “upset.” However, a key witness had a different version of events. The witness stated that the dog was simply being playful when Mileskiewicz suddenly became angry. Without warning, she grabbed a pocketknife and started stabbing the dog. The witness, who was just a few feet away, immediately called 911 while the dog retreated to a closet, leaving small amounts of blood on the dog bed, wall, and floor.
The pocketknife used in the attack was described as having a black grip and a blade about 2-3 inches long. While Mileskiewicz managed to stab the dog twice, the witness said she appeared to try striking the dog repeatedly.
After her arrest, Mileskiewicz told deputies she “made a mistake.” She now faces charges of torturing or inflicting pain on an animal and causing serious injury, as well as resisting arrest. She is currently being held at the Hernando County Detention Center with bail set at $3,500. Court records show she has applied for a public defender, citing financial difficulties.
Her arraignment is scheduled for January 28, where she will face these charges in court.
