Former Georgia Police Officer Arrested for Child Exploitation Amid Ongoing GBI Investigation

Amber Nicole Ferguson, a 33-year-old from Commerce, Georgia, has been arrested and faces serious charges. Ferguson, who previously worked as a police officer for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, turned herself in at the Jackson County Jail on the morning of January 15. She has been charged with two counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children.

According to investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Ferguson is accused of taking sexually explicit photos of a child. The investigation began after a family member filed a complaint with the City of Commerce Police Department on December 1, 2024. Following the complaint, the Commerce police asked the GBI to step in and handle the case.

The GBI has shared that their investigation is still ongoing. They’re encouraging anyone with information to come forward and help. People can contact their Athens regional office directly or share tips anonymously by phone, online, or through the See Something, Send Something mobile app.

Once the investigation wraps up, the case will be handed over to the Piedmont Judicial Circuit for prosecution. Authorities are urging the public to assist in any way possible by sharing any details that might be relevant to the case.
