A Cape Girardeau man, 42-year-old Adam R. Kerr, is facing new charges of conspiracy to commit murder, following an investigation that uncovered plans for a potential murder while he was incarcerated. The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office began its inquiry into a conspiracy to commit murder on January 10, 2025, after discovering that Kerr had been involved in discussions about having an individual killed in exchange for his release from jail.
As the investigation progressed, authorities revealed that Kerr had offered financial compensation to someone in an attempt to carry out the murder. The plan, which was further detailed through audio recordings, allegedly included using fentanyl to kill an unnamed person, intending to make the death appear as an accidental overdose. These findings led the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to file an additional felony charge of first-degree assault against Kerr, stemming from his involvement in this alleged conspiracy.
Kerr is currently being held in the Stoddard County Jail without bond. His arrest earlier in 2023 came after he faced serious charges, including nine felony counts of rape, sodomy, and armed criminal action. These charges were the result of an investigation into violent crimes committed by Kerr. A court review related to these charges is scheduled for February 4, 2025.
