From Traffic Stop to Arrest: Newport Man Collared on Drug Charges

A man from Newport, North Carolina, was arrested early Sunday morning following a traffic stop in Jones County that led to the discovery of illegal drugs. According to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were patrolling the Potters Hill area around 3 a.m. due to an increase in complaints and reports from the community.

During their patrol, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation. The driver, identified as James Dove Jr., attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by law enforcement officers. After securing Dove, deputies searched the area where he had tried to escape and discovered illegal drugs.

Following the investigation, Dove was charged with multiple drug-related offenses, including possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine, felony possession of cocaine, manufacturing cocaine, and manufacturing marijuana. Additionally, he was charged with felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, along with multiple misdemeanor drug offenses and traffic violations.

Authorities transported Dove to the Jones County jail, where he was held without bond. Deputies also noted that Dove had recently been released from state prison after serving time for similar drug-related offenses.
