A man from Alton was arrested after allegedly firing shots at Alton Bay, causing concern among locals.
It all started around 4:30 p.m. on February 22, when troopers and Alton police rushed to the Echo Point boat launch after receiving reports of gunfire. Authorities quickly identified those involved and ensured the area was safe. Thankfully, no one was injured, according to Tyler Dumont, the public information officer for the New Hampshire State Police.
Just two days later, police arrested 52-year-old Christopher L. Johnson of Alton on a reckless conduct with a deadly weapon charge. He was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Laconia District Court on April 24.
In another incident in Concord, a man experiencing a mental health crisis was taken to Concord Hospital after suffering self-inflicted injuries during a stabbing incident at the state government complex on Hazen Drive on February 24. Authorities confirmed that there was no threat to anyone else in the area, and the man was not a state employee. It remains unclear why he was on the premises.
The state police urged anyone struggling with mental health issues to seek help, reminding people that the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available by calling or texting 988 for free and confidential support.
