New Bern police are currently investigating a series of overnight shootings that occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in the Duffyfield and Sunnyside areas. Authorities responded to three separate ShotSpotter activations, each indicating gunfire in different locations.
The first activation was reported around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday near the 1100 block of First Street. Officers arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough search of the area. No injuries were reported, and police collected evidence for further investigation.
A second activation took place at approximately 3:50 a.m. on Wednesday near the 900 block of Green Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered that multiple shots had been fired, striking a home. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Authorities documented the scene and gathered evidence to aid in their investigation.
Within the next hour, a third activation was recorded near the 700 block of Trent Avenue. Officers searched the area, looking for any potential victims, witnesses, or suspects. Although no injuries were reported, police continued their efforts to gather crucial evidence and information related to the incident.
Law enforcement officials emphasize the serious threat posed by illegal gunfire. While no injuries resulted from these shootings, the reckless discharge of firearms endangers public safety and has the potential to cause significant harm or loss of life. Authorities are urging community members to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying those responsible.
