Heartbreaking Discovery: Missing 2-Year-Old Found Dead in Oregon

A large-scale search for a missing Oregon toddler ended tragically on Tuesday when his body was found in the Siletz River. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that 2-year-old Dane Paulsen, who had been reported missing on March 1, was discovered deceased around 11:13 a.m., approximately three miles downstream from his family’s property.

Authorities had focused their search efforts along the Siletz River after evidence suggested the child had been at the water’s edge before disappearing. Sheriff Adam Shanks expressed condolences to the family, acknowledging the profound grief they are experiencing. He also extended gratitude to the search teams and community members who dedicated time and resources to the effort. Officials have requested privacy for the family during this difficult time.

Dane was reported missing at approximately 4:25 p.m. on March 1. He had last been seen playing in his front yard in Siletz, Oregon, out of his parents’ sight. Search efforts expanded rapidly, and by March 4, teams had covered 682 acres and 341 miles. Sheriff Shanks emphasized the department’s commitment to bringing Dane home throughout the search operation.

The search involved 88 personnel, 40 investigators, four aerial drones, multiple search dogs, and 140 community volunteers. Additionally, the Lincoln County Major Crime Team and the FBI provided support, investigating numerous leads. The FBI’s Victim Service Division also offered resources to Dane’s family. As of March 4, authorities had followed up on at least 195 tips.

Earlier in the investigation, officials sought information about a man in a station wagon who had been seen in the area 30 minutes before Dane’s disappearance. However, after locating the driver and vehicle, authorities ruled them out as points of interest. No evidence of abduction or criminal activity was found.

Dane was described by family members as a “friendly and fearless” child who was comfortable around strangers and loved water, though he did not know how to swim. Authorities will continue to provide updates via social media.
