An 85-year-old Florida woman, Lucy Pat Curl, is in critical condition after being brutally attacked during a home invasion in Orlando. According to police, the suspect, later identified as 55-year-old Ronald D. Davis, knocked on Curl’s door on Friday, claiming to be a “community service officer” who needed to inspect the home. When she requested identification, he allegedly showed his driver’s license before forcing his way inside and assaulting her.
The attack was discovered by Curl’s husband, William Curl, after she managed to press the car horn in the garage to signal for help. When he found her, she was severely battered. Emergency responders arrived, and she was immediately transported to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Neighbors expressed shock and sadness over the attack, noting that the Curls were well-known in their community for their involvement with the First Baptist Church of Orlando and their dedication to helping others. Ann Hoskinson, a neighbor, described them as “beacons of the neighborhood” and expressed hope for Lucy Curl’s recovery.
Police located Davis a few miles away from the victim’s home, sleeping in a shed. He was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including home invasion robbery with a weapon, aggravated battery with a weapon, and aggravated battery on a person over 65 with great bodily harm. Authorities also revealed that Davis had a criminal history; he was released from prison in June after serving 15 years for burglary and robbery.
The attack has left the local community shaken, with residents calling for heightened awareness and security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
