High-Speed Pursuit Ends with Three Detained in Jefferson County

Three individuals are currently in custody following a high-speed chase in Jefferson County, Illinois, that began in Herrin. The incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, January 25, when Herrin Police received a 911 call reporting an attempted vehicle burglary in the 1000 block of South 16th Street. Upon arriving at the scene, officers identified a suspect vehicle in the area and attempted to initiate a traffic stop after observing several traffic violations.

The situation escalated into a high-speed pursuit that lasted approximately 22 miles, heading north on Route 148. As the chase continued into Jefferson County, Herrin Police officers eventually decided to terminate the pursuit. Shortly after, Jefferson County deputies took over the pursuit and successfully located the suspect vehicle.

The three male occupants of the vehicle were apprehended. The driver was identified as 19-year-old Gregory L. Moore, who was subsequently taken into custody. Moore is now being held at the Jefferson County Jail, facing charges from both the Herrin Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. During the investigation, authorities confirmed that the vehicle involved in the pursuit had been reported stolen from Cahokia, Illinois, prior to the incident.
