The West York Borough Police Department has released funeral arrangements for Officer Andrew Duarte, who was killed during a mass shooting at UPMC Memorial Hospital. The York County Coroner has also released the results of his autopsy.
Officer Duarte was fatally shot in the chest by the gunman, identified as Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz, during the attack on February 22. According to the coroner’s report, Duarte succumbed to his injuries at 12:19 p.m. at WellSpan York Hospital. His official cause of death was determined to be ballistic injuries to the torso, and the manner of death was ruled as homicide.
The funeral service for Officer Duarte will take place on February 28 at Living Word Community Church, located at 2530 Cape Horn Road. The service is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. The West York Borough Police Department has outlined specific arrangements due to capacity restrictions at the church.
Open seating for family members, friends, sworn law enforcement officers, dignitaries, and special guests will be available starting at 9:00 a.m. Civilians and non-sworn law enforcement personnel are encouraged to watch the service via an available livestream.
Law enforcement officers from York County, Denver, Colorado, and Ocean City, Maryland, along with their families, will be given preferential seating inside the church auditorium.
The West York Borough Police Department, the local community, and law enforcement agencies across multiple states continue to mourn the loss of Officer Duarte. He is remembered for his dedication and service.
