A man from Rutherford is facing serious charges after allegedly setting fire to a hotel room in East Rutherford, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident happened late Thursday morning, around 11:30 a.m., at the Fairfield Inn Marriott in East Rutherford. Authorities say 55-year-old Vincente Carabello was staying at the hotel when he got into an argument with a staff member. Things quickly escalated, and officials allege that Carabello set fire to his own room following the dispute.
After the fire was started, Carabello reportedly left his room and got into a physical altercation with a staff member before leaving the building entirely. Police tracked him down and arrested him several hours later.
Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire. However, the situation has left many shaken.
Carabello is now facing a series of serious charges, including aggravated arson, arson, risking widespread injury or damage, criminal mischief, and assault. He is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail as he awaits a court appearance.
