A woman in Illinois has been charged with allegedly stabbing her mother in the head in Vernon Hills, Illinois, on Thursday, February 13. Reports from multiple news sources, including ABC 7, Fox 32, and Local News 8, indicate that 20-year-old Sashary Almanza was taken into custody following the incident.
The attack occurred in the 900 block of Jackson Court around 7 a.m., prompting a 911 call from a person reporting that a woman had been stabbed by her daughter. Shortly after the attack, the caller informed authorities that the suspect had fled the scene. Responding officers quickly launched a search operation in the area. Within ten minutes of receiving the call, law enforcement officers found Almanza about half a mile away from the residence. Upon her arrest, authorities recovered the kitchen knife that was allegedly used in the attack.
Following her arrest, Almanza was charged with two felony counts: aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. According to Fox 32, as of Wednesday, February 19, she remains in custody at the Lake County Jail while awaiting legal proceedings.
Almanza’s mother, a 46-year-old woman, was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois, where she received medical treatment for a stab wound to the head. After receiving care, she was later released from the hospital.
Law enforcement officials have not disclosed further details regarding the motive behind the incident or any prior history of domestic violence between Almanza and her mother. The Vernon Hills Police Department has yet to provide additional statements regarding the case.
