Indiana Inmate Escapes Work Crew—Police Urge Residents to Lock Their Doors

An inmate from Indiana is on the run after walking away from a work crew, and police are urging residents to stay alert and lock their doors.

Authorities say 21-year-old Michael D. Anderson, who was serving time for burglary at the Edinburgh Correctional Facility, disappeared from a work detail near Vallonia Tree Nursery on Wednesday, March 19. He was last seen in the Starve Hollow area.

Anderson is described as a 5-foot-8-inch Black male with a light complexion, black hair, and brown eyes. He weighs about 184 pounds and has several noticeable tattoos, including a rose on his right hand, a royal crown on his right arm, and a Chicago Bulls logo on his left leg.

At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a yellow shirt and pants, a Carhartt-style jacket, and an orange hat. Police say he may also have on long underwear.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they are still searching for Anderson. While they don’t believe he poses an immediate threat, they are advising people in the area to keep their doors locked just in case.

“If you see him, do not approach—call 911 immediately,” officials warned in a Facebook post. The Indiana Department of Correction is also asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact local law enforcement.
