Jay-Z is firing back. The rapper and music mogul has filed a lawsuit against attorney Tony Buzbee, David Fortney, and their Jane Doe client after a previous sexual assault case against him was dropped. Court documents from Alabama reveal that Jay-Z is accusing the three of malicious prosecution, abuse of process, and civil conspiracy. He’s also suing Jane Doe for defamation — and he’s asking for serious damages.
This legal battle started with some heavy allegations. Back in October 2024, Jane Doe claimed that Jay-Z and fellow music icon Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulted her at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000 when she was just 13 years old. But by February 2025, the suit was voluntarily dismissed by Buzbee and his legal team. Now, Jay-Z says those accusations were not just false — they were designed to damage his reputation and force him into a costly settlement.
In his new March 3 filing, Jay-Z alleges that the whole case was built on lies. He claims that Jane Doe even admitted to his representative that he never assaulted her and that her lawyers pushed her to keep up the false story to get a big payday. The filing also states that the entire lawsuit was timed to cause the most harm possible — right before his daughter Blue Ivy’s big movie premiere for “Mufasa: The Lion King.” Despite the pressure, Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé still attended the event to support their daughter.
The fallout from the false claims has been massive. Jay-Z says he’s lost $20 million in contracts and has suffered deep emotional distress because of the ordeal. After the initial case was dismissed, Jay-Z called it a victory, but the damage was already done — not just to him but also to his family.
This isn’t the first time Jay-Z has fought back against these allegations. In December 2024, he filed a similar suit in Los Angeles, accusing Buzbee of extortion and defamation. While parts of that case are moving forward, the extortion claim might be dismissed.
On the other side, Buzbee is standing firm. He insists his client’s claims are true and has accused Jay-Z of trying to intimidate and silence the alleged victim. But with the original case dismissed and Jay-Z’s new lawsuit gaining traction, this legal drama is far from over.
