A Kansas couple, Nathaniel Boyd, 24, and Whitney Allmond, 26, were found dead 18 hours after their car crashed during a winter storm. Boyd had been picking up Allmond from work and was driving her home when they lost control of the car and drove up an embankment. The crash threw both of them from the vehicle. Neither Boyd nor Allmond was wearing a seatbelt.
The accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. last Sunday on Interstate 235. It wasn’t until about 6:20 p.m. that police received a 911 call reporting the crash, nearly 18 hours after it happened.
Family members described Allmond as a hardworking woman who worked two jobs to support her two young children, ages 4 and 2. They also shared that Allmond would have turned 27 the Wednesday after the crash. Boyd’s mother spoke highly of him, saying he was an amazing person who deeply cared for Allmond’s children. She also mentioned that her son did not have life insurance, which has made the situation even more difficult for both families.
To help with funeral costs and provide financial support for the children, the families have set up GoFundMe pages. Boyd’s GoFundMe has raised $2,535 of its $6,000 goal. Boyd’s family members said they were “blindsided” by his tragic loss.
Allmond’s family also set up a fundraiser, which has raised $11,240 of its $17,000 goal. Allmond’s brother, Larry, explained that the funds would be used for funeral expenses, with any remaining funds going to support Allmond’s two children. He thanked people for their support and urged everyone to stay safe in the weather.
Both families are facing emotional and financial hardship after this unexpected tragedy.
