Lara Trump Drops Senate Bid After Clash with Ron DeSantis

Lara Trump has decided to drop her bid to become Florida’s next senator, and it seems like she couldn’t quite win over Governor Ron DeSantis, who will be picking the replacement for Marco Rubio when he steps down next year to become the new Secretary of State.

Lara, the daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump, had expressed excitement about taking on the role, saying she’d “love” to step into the Senate seat. However, it became clear that DeSantis, who would ultimately make the decision, wasn’t exactly on board with her running.

After giving it a lot of thought, Lara shared on X (formerly Twitter) that she was withdrawing from the race, though she promised a “big announcement” in January.

According to sources close to DeSantis, he was taking her bid seriously but was more likely to support someone with a more established political career, like Florida’s Attorney General, Ashley Moody.

Lara, who moved to Florida from New York with her husband Eric Trump a few years ago, recently stepped down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee.

Interestingly, her father-in-law, Donald Trump, didn’t seem too hopeful about her chances. When asked about her Senate run, he simply said, “I don’t know,” and acknowledged that the decision was ultimately DeSantis’s.

While some speculated that Trump’s backing of DeSantis for other positions could somehow pave the way for Lara to be appointed to the Senate, it looks like that won’t happen this time around. The governor’s pick remains a big question mark, but it seems like Florida might be heading in a different direction for Rubio’s replacement.

The whole situation highlights how tricky it can be when governors get to pick senators, a process that some critics argue could lead to too much political maneuvering.

And while Lara may not be heading to the Senate just yet, she’s still got something up her sleeve—so stay tuned for her big reveal in January!
