Love Gone Wrong: Alabama Woman Accused of Killing Ex-Husband in New Year’s Tragedy

A shocking incident unfolded in Mobile, Alabama, on New Year’s Day, leaving the community stunned. A 27-year-old woman, Genesis P. Tanksley, is accused of shooting and killing her ex-husband, Lazarus Tanksley, before dropping his body off at a local hospital.

Genesis was arrested on Wednesday and charged with murder. The Mobile Police Department’s Homicide Unit was alerted around 1 a.m. on January 1, when hospital staff reported a deceased man being dropped off at their facility. Witnesses described the woman who brought him in as driving a silver Lexus SUV and having braided hair with red tips. Authorities later confirmed her identity as Genesis Tanksley.

After identifying Lazarus as the victim, officers headed to his home on St. Stephens Road. This area, about 240 miles southwest of Birmingham, became the focal point of the investigation. At the scene, police spoke to a male witness who claimed to have been there during the shooting. He admitted to helping a woman load Lazarus into the silver Lexus SUV but didn’t know her name. He described her as a Black woman with the same distinctive hairstyle.

Another witness came forward on Wednesday morning and shared more details. She said she had gone to Lazarus’s house with Genesis that night. An argument broke out between Genesis and Lazarus, and then a gunshot rang out. Scared, the witness fled on foot and hadn’t spoken to Genesis since.

Genesis is currently in the Mobile County Jail, being held without bond.

This isn’t the first time Genesis Tanksley has had trouble with the law. Back in October 2024, both she and Lazarus were arrested after a domestic violence incident at the same home on St. Stephens Road. Police had been called to the house multiple times for similar disputes. During that particular incident, Genesis fled the scene in her silver Lexus, leading officers on a 30-minute car chase before being arrested.

The case has left many wondering what could have led to such a tragic ending. As the investigation continues, the community is grappling with the loss and the troubling history of domestic violence between Genesis and Lazarus.
