In a shocking turn of events, a man was arrested early Sunday morning in Evansville after he tried to take a 40-day-old baby girl from her mother. The incident unfolded around 5 a.m. when police were called to the 1600 block of East Morgan Avenue for a custody dispute.
Evelyn Armstrong, the baby’s mother, told officers that her ex-partner, 40-year-old Aviea Joyner, showed up uninvited and tried to take their daughter, Aviea Joyner. Armstrong made it clear that Joyner didn’t have any legal rights to the baby. The two have never been married, and Joyner has never taken a paternity test or been given any court-ordered visitation rights.
According to Armstrong, Joyner barged into the home, took the baby from her crib, and threatened her. He reportedly told her that if she tried to stop him, he would “beat” her. Armstrong followed him to his car, where things got even more intense. Joyner allegedly pushed Armstrong in the stomach to keep her away from the vehicle.
Despite the pain, Armstrong managed to call 911, and Joyner fled with the baby. Officers later tracked him down, and he was arrested on several serious charges, including kidnapping, domestic battery, and intimidation.
This frightening ordeal is a reminder of the importance of legal rights when it comes to custody, and how quickly a situation can turn dangerous. Thankfully, Armstrong is safe, and Joyner is now facing multiple charges.
