A man impersonating a child care worker has been arrested after allegedly luring a teenager into his vehicle and sexually assaulting her. The suspect, Derrick Dwayne Thompson, 57, was taken into custody on January 15, following a thorough investigation that began after the incident on November 30.
Details of the Incident
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Thompson was driving a black Chevrolet Suburban that displayed a sign reading “CJ Angels Child Care.” He approached the 15-year-old girl while she was waiting for the bus and claimed to work for Child Services, offering her a ride home. Believing his story, the girl entered the vehicle. Thompson then drove to a parking lot, instructed her to move to the back seat, and removed the child care sign from the door before sexually assaulting her
Legal Actions
Following his arrest, the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office charged Thompson with several serious offenses, including forcible rape, sodomy by use of force, and sexual penetration by force on a minor victim aged 14 or older. He is currently being held without bail.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities suspect there may be additional victims and have released a photo of Thompson along with the vehicle’s sign in hopes of encouraging others to come forward with information.
