COWETA COUNTY, Ga. – A massive manhunt is underway in Grantville, Coweta County, as law enforcement agencies search for a man described as “armed and dangerous.” The incident began around 1:48 p.m. on Wednesday when Georgia State Patrol (GSP) troopers attempted a traffic stop, leading to a high-speed chase on Interstate 85.
The pursuit ended near the Grantville exit, where the suspect fired shots, believed to be from an AR-15, striking GSP K-9 Amor. The injured K-9 was airlifted to BluePearl Pet Hospital in Sandy Springs and is currently in stable condition.
After crashing his vehicle, the suspect fled into dense woods, prompting a large-scale search operation involving multiple agencies, including the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have set up a mobile command center, closed roads, and deployed helicopters in the search effort.
Grantville Mayor Richard Proctor described the area as “very, very thick, very dense woods,” making the search challenging, especially as night falls.
Residents are advised to stay indoors, lock their doors, and report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately. The search continues as law enforcement works tirelessly to apprehend the suspect.
