Maryland Mother Charged After Infant Daughter’s Heartbreaking Death

A tragic story has emerged from Harford County, Maryland, where a 32-year-old mother is accused of fatally harming her baby daughter over the weekend.

On Sunday, December 29, deputies from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office were called to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The hospital had reported a case of possible child abuse involving a 5 1/2-month-old baby girl. Medical staff shared heartbreaking details: the infant had multiple skull fractures, brain bleeds, a broken leg, and other severe injuries.

The child’s mother, Maya Dennis, had reportedly called 911 herself, saying her baby wasn’t breathing. The little girl, who had just recently come home for the holidays after spending months in the NICU since birth, was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

As part of the investigation, authorities searched the family’s home on Mayberry Drive and questioned witnesses. According to court documents, Dennis, who had sole custody of the baby, made statements suggesting she was responsible for the injuries. Sadly, the baby girl passed away on December 31.

Dennis now faces serious charges, including first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse. She is being held at the Harford County Detention Center.

Sheriff Jeff Gahler expressed the community’s sorrow, saying, “It’s heartbreaking to even talk about. There was a brain bleed, a fractured skull, a broken leg, and other serious internal injuries. To lose a defenseless child, especially during the holiday season, is truly devastating.”

The baby girl was one of Maya Dennis’ six children. This case has left many in the community shaken, as they grapple with the loss of such a young, innocent life.
