Massive Storm to Blanket 2,600 Miles with Snow, Rain, and Chaos

A massive storm is making its way across the United States, bringing a mix of snow, rain, and even severe weather to different parts of the country. Starting in Southern California, this weather system is traveling thousands of miles and is expected to impact areas from the Southwest all the way to the Northeast by the weekend. Here’s what to expect as the storm unfolds.

In Southern California, the storm kicked off the week with much-needed rain, delivering around an inch to many areas and dropping several inches of snow in the mountains. From there, it moved into the Southwest, spreading rain and snow across states like Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. Places like Flagstaff, Arizona, have already seen snow, while cities such as Las Vegas experienced rare rain showers. Even Phoenix, which hasn’t had significant rain since August, got some relief from the dry weather.

As the storm pushes east, it’s expected to pick up strength in the central U.S. by midweek. Snow could create hazardous travel conditions in areas like New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska. Cities like Santa Fe, Pueblo, and Dodge City might see enough snow to make roads slick and treacherous. Meanwhile, heavy rain is on the way for parts of Texas, Kentucky, and beyond. This rain will be welcomed in drought-stricken areas like San Antonio and Austin, but there’s also a risk of flash flooding if the rain comes too quickly.

On top of the rain and snow, this storm could also bring the first round of severe thunderstorms in weeks. Central and southeastern Texas should brace for the possibility of hail and strong winds on Wednesday and Thursday. As the week goes on, the chance of heavy storms might extend to parts of the southern Appalachians and the Atlantic coast.

Further north, the storm is expected to bring a mix of snow and ice. Cities like Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland could see a wintry mix or even accumulating snow as the storm travels along the boundary between warm and cold air. Meanwhile, areas in the Northeast might experience a range of weather, from heavy rain in places like Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., to icy conditions in parts of New York and New England.

By the time the storm reaches the eastern U.S. late in the week, it could cause significant travel headaches. Rain, thunderstorms, and icy conditions might disrupt flights in major hubs like Atlanta and Charlotte, while slippery roads could slow down weekend travel plans.

This storm has something in store for almost everyone, from soaking rain to snow and even some spring-like warmth in parts of the South. As it continues its journey across the country, it’s a reminder to stay prepared for quickly changing weather conditions, no matter where you are.
