Former Rep. Matt Gaetz took to X (formerly Twitter) this Christmas to share his “takeaways” from the recent House Ethics Committee report, setting the record straight on some serious allegations.
Gaetz, who resigned last month after being tapped for attorney general, denied claims he paid a 17-year-old girl for sex. He shared with his followers that the Justice Department didn’t file charges against him, and even pointed out that the women involved never agreed to exchange sex for money.
Addressing the claim that he had sex with a 17-year-old at a party in 2017, Gaetz was firm. He said the testimony didn’t match up with the facts, including showing that “community gate logs” didn’t support the party story. He also claimed the “victim” had changed her story and was trying to shake him down for money.
While Gaetz admitted to providing financial support to women he dated, he insisted it wasn’t anything shady, describing it as normal for him in his 30s. He also acknowledged helping a woman get a passport, explaining it was part of his job to assist Floridians in need — even though the woman wasn’t his constituent.
As for the report’s mention of $90,000 in payments to 12 women between 2017 and 2020, Gaetz defended it as nothing more than supporting relationships.
Gaetz wrapped up his holiday post by calling out the years-long investigation by President Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland, noting they never accused him of any crime.
Gaetz clearly isn’t backing down anytime soon!
