Melania Trump Fires Back at Obamas Over ‘Tough’ Transition, While Michelle Shuns Inauguration

Melania Trump recently took a subtle jab at the Obamas, reflecting on what she called a “challenging transition” back in 2017. This comes after Michelle Obama confirmed she would not attend President-elect Donald Trump’s second inauguration next week, making headlines once again.

In an interview with Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt, Melania opened up about the differences between preparing for her first move into the White House and this time around. “The difference is, I know exactly where I’ll be going. I know the rooms, the process—everything. The first time, we didn’t have much information, and things were kept from us by the previous administration,” she said.

Melania made it clear that this time is different: “This time, I have everything I need. I’m already packed and ready to go. It’s a much smoother transition now,” she added.

When asked about how the Bidens have handled the transition, Melania cleverly avoided the question. “Well, they’re still there and will be out by January 20. The transition team only has five hours to move them out and get us in,” she replied.

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama has confirmed she will be skipping Trump’s inauguration. While no official reason has been given, sources close to Michelle suggest that she simply can’t bring herself to “fake” it for someone she believes threatens American democracy. “Michelle doesn’t do anything just for show or tradition,” a source reportedly said.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Melania and Michelle have made waves. At Trump’s first inauguration, Melania surprised Michelle with a gift—a moment that quickly went viral for its awkwardness. Michelle later explained the confusion by saying it was a “protocol” issue, and in a candid 2023 interview, she opened up about how difficult it was to watch Trump’s swearing-in. “There was no diversity, no reflection of the America I believe in,” she said.

As for the former president, Donald Trump made his own controversial move when he became the first president in over a century to skip his successor’s swearing-in. After not attending President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021, tensions between the Trumps and Bidens continue to run high.

It’s clear that transitions from one administration to another aren’t always smooth sailing, and the political drama surrounding these high-profile moments seems to keep making waves.
