A mother in North Carolina has been arrested after authorities say she didn’t give her 4-year-old daughter any solid food for six months, leaving the little girl severely malnourished.
Sarah Weber, 28, is now facing serious charges of child neglect causing bodily injury. The incident came to light when police visited Weber’s home in Charlotte on Saturday. According to a police report, Weber told officers her daughter had been dealing with diarrhea for about a month. Shockingly, Weber admitted that the child had not eaten solid food for half a year and hadn’t seen a doctor during that time.
Medical professionals confirmed the young girl was severely malnourished. Her condition was so dire that she had to be immediately admitted to a hospital for further care and evaluation.
The police took Weber into custody, and she is now in the Mecklenburg County Jail on a $25,000 bond. A neighbor, Jacqueline Wade, shared her reaction after seeing multiple police cars and an ambulance outside Weber’s home. “It’s heartbreaking,” she said. “You live near someone, and you have no idea what’s really happening behind closed doors.”
The owner of the home where Weber lives confirmed to media that she is the mother of the malnourished child. However, court records show Weber currently does not have a lawyer representing her.
As for the child, authorities have not yet disclosed what steps are being taken to ensure her safety and well-being. Weber’s next court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
