Northern Arizona’s Long-Awaited Snowfall Offers Hope After a Dry Winter

After months of uncomfortably dry weather, northern Arizona finally got some relief on Monday with a dusting of snow, much to the relief of locals. But the wait for more snow isn’t over just yet. Forecasters are predicting more snow showers on Tuesday and Wednesday as a winter system sticks around, offering a glimmer of hope for areas that have been struggling with a dry season.

However, the snow won’t last long. By Thursday, temperatures will warm up, and dry conditions will settle back in as the system moves east, according to meteorologist Ryan Bernhart.

This season, Flagstaff has only received a measly 4.1 inches of snow, a far cry from the typical 47 inches by this time of year. The difference is linked to a La NiƱa pattern that has taken over since late November, leaving the region unusually dry. Unfortunately, itā€™s uncertain when snow will return for the rest of the season, leaving residents hoping for a change in the weather pattern soon.

Itā€™s been a tough winter for those who rely on snowfall for everything from recreation to water supplies, but the snow this week offers a temporary reprieve. Here’s hoping the skies deliver more snow in the weeks to come.
