On Christmas Eve, President Joe Biden signed 50 new bills into law, marking a busy day for the president. Among the most notable was the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act, supported by activist Paris Hilton. This important legislation aims to hold teenage treatment centers accountable for mistreating children. Paris Hilton, who’s been outspoken on the issue, spent time lobbying for the bill on Capitol Hill. It passed overwhelmingly in the Senate and House, and Biden gave it his final approval.

Another bill that caught attention was one designating the bald eagle as the official national bird of the United States. This new law, pushed by lawmakers like Senators Amy Klobuchar and Cynthia Lummis, recognizes the bald eagle as a symbol of America’s strength, independence, and freedom. As Preston Cook, co-chair of the National Bird Initiative, put it, the bald eagle has symbolized American values since 1782.

Other significant bills signed include the Stop Campus Hazing Act, aimed at addressing hazing in colleges, and two bills to rename post offices in honor of heroes like CIA officer Billy D. Waugh and late Senator Dianne Feinstein.

Biden also signed bills renaming federal buildings, like a Veterans Affairs clinic in Virginia after Desmond T. Doss, a true American hero.

These new laws reflect Biden’s commitment to making meaningful changes and honoring those who have made a lasting impact on the country.
