Queens Tragedy: 79-Year-Old Man Shot and Killed by NYPD Outside Precinct

Police officers in Queens shot and killed a man outside the 111th Precinct on Tuesday night, according to the NYPD. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. near Northern Boulevard and 215th Street in Bayside. NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera stated that the shooting happened after the man failed to comply with officers’ commands to put down his firearm.

According to police reports, a 79-year-old man exited a car parked near the precinct. A uniformed officer stationed at the precinct engaged with the man and noticed that he had a firearm. At some point during the interaction, the man suddenly displayed the weapon and pointed it at the officer. The officer immediately gave verbal commands instructing him to put down the firearm and also radioed for backup. Additional officers arrived on the scene and repeated the commands, but the man did not comply with their orders.
