Rivalry Turns Violent: Georgia Paving Feud Erupts in Baseball Bat Brawl

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. – A wild scene unfolded in Bolingbroke, Georgia, where six men from the same family paving company are accused of attacking a rival paving crew in a dramatic brawl that police say could have been straight out of a TV show.

The Buckland family, who run a paving business, are accused of showing up at a work site where EH Paving was paving a driveway on December 19. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Bucklands didn’t come empty-handed — they allegedly brought baseball bats, sticks, and even a gun.

Sheriff Brad Freeman described the incident as something you’d expect from a crime drama.

The trouble began around 1 p.m. when the EH Paving crew was working on a customer’s property. Out of nowhere, multiple trucks pulled up, and six members of the Buckland family jumped out, reportedly ready to confront the rival crew.

The Buckland crew included Mark Buckland Sr., his son Mark Buckland Jr., Willy Buckland Sr., his son Willy Buckland Jr., another relative named Luke Buckland, and their son-in-law, James Small. Police say they quickly turned the job site into a chaotic scene.

The owner of EH Paving claimed that Mark Buckland Sr., 50, tried to hit his son with a bat. He also alleged that other Buckland family members attacked his other son and his nephew. On top of that, he said Mark Sr. had a “cowboy-style” gun and even pointed it at him.

The alleged reason for the attack? The Bucklands apparently felt disrespected because EH Paving was working on a job near one of their properties.

Things got so heated that one member of the EH Paving crew reportedly fired a gun into a wooded area to scare off the attackers and break up the fight.

When police arrived after a 911 call about the large brawl involving “bats and guns,” they spoke to Mark Buckland Jr., who downplayed the situation, calling it “just a misunderstanding.” However, the injuries and accusations told a different story.

The charges against the Bucklands include everything from aggravated assault to criminal trespassing. Mark Buckland Sr. is accused of tampering with evidence, pointing a gun at someone, and trespassing. Other family members face charges such as inciting a riot, simple battery, and assault.

Despite the serious charges, all six men had been released by Monday morning.

The Monroe County Sheriff summed up the situation, saying, “These are adult men, too. Adult men with pretty good reputations.”

As for the victims, it seems the incident left more than just physical injuries. The owner of EH Paving believes the attack was a deliberate attempt to intimidate his family and hurt their business.

This small-town feud has left the Bolingbroke community talking, and it’s safe to say this is a story they won’t forget anytime soon.
