Robert Pattinson is embracing fatherhood and has discovered a surprising joy: the way his baby smells.
The 38-year-old actor opened up in a recent interview about becoming a dad after welcoming a daughter with his fiancée, Suki Waterhouse, in March 2024. He confessed that one of his favorite things about his little one is her unique scent.
“I used to think when people talked about loving the smell of babies, it was just about baby powder or something,” Pattinson shared with a laugh. “But now, having my own, I get it. My baby smells amazing. There’s just something about it—it’s like her scent is a way I can always recognize her.”
Science backs up Pattinson’s newfound appreciation. According to Dr. Marty Ellington Jr., a pediatric expert, the distinctive smell of a baby plays a role in bonding between parents and their child. “The way a baby smells encourages nurturing instincts and strengthens the bond,” Dr. Ellington explained in a previous interview.
But fans of Pattinson might remember his playful reputation for stretching the truth in interviews. He once admitted he gets bored easily and occasionally fibs to keep things interesting. So, is he serious this time? Only he knows for sure.
As for Waterhouse, 33, she announced her pregnancy during a November 2023 performance at the Corona Capital Festival. Dressed in a sparkly pink minidress with plenty of flair, she joked that her outfit was meant to keep the focus off her growing bump. “I was like, ‘Maybe if I wear something shiny, no one will notice,’” she said.
The couple has been vocal about how much they wanted to start a family. In a British Vogue interview last year, Waterhouse shared that she and Pattinson had carefully planned for this big step. “We looked at each other one day and said, ‘This is as ready as we’ll ever be,’” she revealed with a laugh. “And then I thought, ‘Why not add a little more chaos to life?’”
Now, with their daughter in their arms, it seems like they’re embracing every moment of parenthood—even the smells.
