A tragic hit-and-run crash in Sarasota has led to the arrest of a 72-year-old woman, police say. The heartbreaking incident happened on the night of February 10 near State Road 683 and 7th Street, where a mother and her two young children were crossing the road.
According to Sarasota Police, June Fenton was behind the wheel of a Lexus when she struck a 2-year-old, a 5-month-old, and their 29-year-old mother. All three were rushed to the hospital, but sadly, the children did not survive their injuries.
Instead of stopping to help, investigators say Fenton drove away from the scene and didn’t call 911. Authorities later identified her as a suspect, and she cooperated with their investigation.
On March 3, Sarasota Police officially charged Fenton with leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in fatalities and another charge for leaving the scene of a crash that caused serious injuries.
This devastating incident has left the Sarasota community shaken, as people mourn the loss of two young lives and hope for justice to be served.
