Scare on the Road: Martin County School Bus Crash Injures Driver and Student

A school bus driver and a student from Martin County were taken to the hospital after an accident on Friday, according to the Highway Patrol. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on 5 Cent Road when a car crossed the centerline and sideswiped the school bus.

Troopers reported that the driver of the car, a juvenile whose name has not been released, admitted to falling asleep at the wheel. As a result, the vehicle veered into the opposite lane, leading to the collision with the school bus. The driver of the car was not injured but has been charged with driving left of center.

At the time of the accident, only the bus driver and one student passenger were on board. Following the crash, both individuals were transported to ECU Health Windsor for evaluation and treatment of possible injuries. Their current condition has not been disclosed.

The bus involved in the accident belonged to Martin County High School. However, school district officials have not provided any additional details regarding the incident.
