Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) is demanding answers after a devastating attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. In a letter to the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Hawley urged incoming chairman Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to summon Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and FBI Director Christopher Wray to testify about the horrific incident.
Hawley emphasized that Biden administration officials shouldn’t be allowed to avoid public scrutiny as the president’s term draws to a close. He wants Mayorkas and Wray to come forward and provide a “full account” of the attack and any failures by their departments.
The attack, which left at least 15 dead and dozens more injured, was carried out by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen. Jabbar drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street. Authorities are looking into whether others were involved and are treating the incident as an act of terrorism.
“My heart goes out to the victims and their families, who were just trying to celebrate the holiday,” President Biden said. “There is no justification for violence of any kind, and we will not tolerate any attack on our nation’s communities.”
The call for accountability couldn’t be more urgent, as Hawley pushes for transparency and justice for those affected by this tragic event.
