Craven County Man Arrested for Animal Cruelty and Weapons Charges
Craven County, N.C. – A man has been arrested and is facing multiple charges related to animal cruelty and illegal firearm possession, according to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say several reports led deputies and Animal Protective Services to investigate Jarvis Hyman Jr., resulting in his arrest. Court records from eCourts confirm that Hyman was taken into custody on Friday and is facing a series of charges.
Hyman has been charged with felony killing an animal by starvation, misdemeanor cruelty to animals, failure to vaccinate a dog, cat, or ferret, an additional count of misdemeanor cruelty to animals, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. In addition to these charges, court records indicate that Hyman has a pending charge for simple assault, which dates back to October.
Deputies confirmed that Hyman remains in custody as legal proceedings continue. He was issued a secured bond of $15,000 for the animal cruelty-related charges. Additionally, he received a $35,000 secured bond for the possession of a weapon of mass destruction charge and another $35,000 secured bond for the possession of a firearm by a felon charge.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the nature of the weapon of mass destruction charge. The Craven County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Protective Services continue to work on the case, ensuring that all legal aspects are addressed.
