A Seattle mother, Denaya Young, has been charged with second-degree murder after authorities alleged that she beat her 14-year-old son to death using an extension cord. The incident reportedly occurred because Young believed the teenager had not completed his household chores.
According to reports from KIRO, King 5, and The Seattle Times, which cite a police affidavit, Young inflicted severe injuries on her son, ultimately leading to his death on January 30. The medical examiner determined that the boy suffered 1,172 injuries from the beating before he succumbed to his wounds. King 5 further reported that the teen’s cause of death was identified as Sudden Inflammatory Response Syndrome. This condition occurs when excessive blood flows to multiple injuries, overwhelming the body and ultimately causing heart failure.
During police questioning, Young allegedly admitted to losing count of how many times she struck her son, according to details from the affidavit cited by multiple news outlets. The brutal beating reportedly took place while the boy’s three siblings were present in the home. However, it remains unclear whether any of them witnessed the attack or were aware of its severity at the time.
Young now faces charges of second-degree murder in connection with her son’s death. It is not yet known whether she has obtained legal representation or entered a plea. The case continues to be under investigation as authorities examine the full circumstances leading up to the tragic incident.
