A 52-year-old man and his dog were tragically stabbed to death in their home in Kenosha, Wisconsin, following an alleged break-in. The Kenosha Police Department responded to the 8500 block of 18th Avenue on Monday morning after the homeowner called to report that someone might have entered his home and that his back door had been broken. Upon arrival, police checked the property but found no one inside. A complaint was filed, and evidence was collected before authorities left the scene.
However, less than three hours later, police were called back to the same address for another burglary complaint. At approximately 2:32 p.m., the homeowner reported seeing blood outside the back door, which was forced open. When officers arrived, they discovered the homeowner’s body in the basement with an apparent knife wound. Additionally, they found the man’s dog, also stabbed, who died shortly after officers arrived.
The police department immediately deployed SWAT team members to clear the house and ensure there were no other individuals inside. The home was quickly identified as a crime scene, and detectives initiated a homicide investigation. A 41-year-old male from Kenosha was soon named a person of interest in the case, though it remains unclear if he had any prior connection to the victim.
After a brief investigation and search, the suspect was arrested around four hours later after being spotted walking in an alley near 50th Street and 22nd Avenue. The identity of the victim, a 52-year-old man, has not been released out of respect for his family.
The Kenosha Police Department stated that they are confident there are no other persons of interest in the case. The investigation is ongoing, and the scene remains secured as police continue their work. The department expressed their condolences to the victim’s family during this tragic time.
