The deaths of Hollywood legend Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, have raised many questions, especially after a Santa Fe doctor claimed that Arakawa contacted his clinic the day after she was officially declared dead.
Dr. Josiah Child, who runs Cloudberry Health in New Mexico, told the Daily Mail that Arakawa called his clinic on February 12, even though the medical examiner stated she passed away on February 11.
Strange Timing of Betsy Arakawa’s Call
Dr. Child revealed that Arakawa had reached out to his clinic weeks before her death, looking to schedule an echocardiogram (a heart scan) for her husband. She was not a regular patient but was referred by someone else.
She initially scheduled an appointment for February 12 for an unrelated issue but later canceled on February 10, saying Gene Hackman was feeling unwell.
However, on the morning of February 12, she called again to reschedule. One of the doctors at the clinic set an appointment for that afternoon, but Arakawa never showed up. The clinic tried calling her but received no response. Dr. Child emphasized that she showed no signs of respiratory distress when she made the call.
Medical Examiner’s Report vs. Doctor’s Claims
The official medical report contradicts Dr. Child’s statements. According to Chief Medical Investigator Dr. Heather Jarrell, Arakawa was last active on February 11. She exchanged emails in the morning, then visited a grocery store, a pharmacy, and a pet store before returning home around 5:15 p.m.
The report concluded that Arakawa died of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare disease caused by rodents.

Gene Hackman, a two-time Oscar-winning actor, passed away shortly after his wife. His cause of death was hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer’s disease listed as a contributing factor.
