A car that got stuck on a frozen river in Indiana is now officially trapped until spring. Crews tried to rescue it, but after several failed attempts, they had to call it quits—for now.
The Indianapolis Fire Department first spotted the car stranded on the ice before it eventually broke through and became partially submerged. Rescue teams carefully made their way across the frozen river, hoping to tow it back to shore. But things didn’t go as planned. Before they could pull it out, the car sank completely.
With the ice making recovery impossible, authorities say they’ll have to wait until the warmer months to try again.
Adding to the concern, firefighters noticed clear signs that people had been out on the ice, including bike tracks and messages written across the frozen surface. Officials are now urging residents to stay off the ice, warning that it’s never truly safe to walk or drive on frozen bodies of water in Indiana.
