A man from Elizabeth City was arrested after allegedly assaulting law enforcement officers and damaging their vehicles during a traffic stop before barricading himself inside a residence for several hours. Authorities identified the suspect as 41-year-old Jonathan Foskey.
The incident began when Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) agents conducted a traffic stop on Grice Street at approximately 12:15 p.m. Foskey, who was driving the vehicle, is accused of striking both the ALE agents and their vehicle as he attempted to flee. His actions prompted a pursuit, which led him to a home located in the 900 block of Fourth Street.
According to authorities, Foskey entered the residence, which did not belong to him, and remained inside for several hours. Law enforcement confirmed that the house was unoccupied at the time. Despite repeated commands to surrender, he refused to comply.
At around 6:50 p.m., ALE agents forcibly entered the residence and took Foskey into custody. He now faces over 20 charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, assault on government officials, and communicating threats.
Authorities confirmed that no law enforcement personnel sustained injuries during the incident. Foskey, who has a criminal record and is currently on supervised probation, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries before being processed by law enforcement.
