Suspect Arrested After String of Stabbings in Denver Leaves 2 Dead

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a string of stabbings that left two people dead and others injured over the weekend in Denver. Police believe the attacks were random and unrelated to the victims.

The suspect, Elijah Caudill, was taken into custody late Sunday after officers spotted him running with a knife. According to Denver Police, the violence unfolded in a series of attacks on 16th Street between Saturday evening and Sunday night.

The first incident occurred just after 5 p.m. on Saturday when a person was stabbed but survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Minutes later, a second stabbing took place nearby, tragically claiming the life of an adult woman who later died at the hospital. Less than an hour after that, another man was attacked in the same area. He sustained serious injuries but is expected to recover.

On Sunday evening, the violence continued when another man was fatally stabbed around 8 p.m. Police discovered this fourth victim shortly after apprehending Caudill, who matched the description of the suspect seen fleeing the scene.

Authorities have charged Caudill with two counts of first-degree murder, including one involving an at-risk elder, as well as two counts of attempted first-degree murder. Investigators say they have found no connection between Caudill and the victims, describing the stabbings as seemingly unprovoked.

Denver’s Mayor Mike Johnston confirmed that Caudill is a Colorado native with a criminal history. During a press briefing, Police Chief Ron Thomas expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and reassured residents that the city remains safe despite the unsettling nature of these attacks.

Caudill is being represented by a public defender, though the office has declined to comment on the case. As the investigation continues, Denver Police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
