Teen Shot in Fort Lauderdale, Suspect Still on the Run; Investigation Ongoing

A teenager was rushed to the hospital early Thursday morning after being shot in downtown Fort Lauderdale, marking the third shooting in Broward County within a 24-hour span. Police responded around 1:30 a.m. to an event the teen was attending when the shooting occurred.

According to witness Jared Peter, the shooting took place outside near SW 2nd St. and Nugent Avenue. An unknown suspect fired into the crowd, hitting the 14-year-old. The teen was quickly taken to Broward Health Medical Center by emergency responders. Thankfully, his injuries were not life-threatening.

Peter, who witnessed the chaos, said, “We heard one shot go off. At first, we thought he was shot in the arm, but later we realized he was hit in the chest.”

As of Thursday morning, no arrests had been made, and the police are still investigating. Peter described the scene as chaotic, with people running in all directions. “It was crazy,” he said. “He ran straight to the corner.” The incident is still under investigation as authorities work to find out who is responsible for the shooting.
