It all unfolded earlier this February when 18-year-old Juan Pena was walking home from a party on Park Avenue, near East Tremont Avenue. What should have been a regular walk back turned into a horrifying moment no one could have imagined. A car pulled up, shots were fired, and Juan was struck down. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The story doesn’t end there. Recently, police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the shooting. Due to his age, the authorities are withholding his name, but the charges are serious: second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
