Temple Student Arrested for Posing as ICE Agent in Bizarre Campus Incident

A Temple University student was arrested and suspended after allegedly pretending to be a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent on campus.

Authorities say 22-year-old Aidan Steigelmann, along with two other unidentified people, attempted to enter the Johnson and Hardwick Residence Halls on Saturday night, Feb. 1, claiming to be ICE agents. Campus security denied them entry, and they were seen leaving the area in a Jaguar SUV shortly after.

Less than 10 minutes later, Steigelmann and another suspect reportedly showed up at a business wearing shirts with “Police” and “ICE” printed on them, causing a disturbance. A third person was allegedly recording the incident. Investigators used the footage to track their vehicle, and Steigelmann was arrested around 10 p.m. near North 12th Street. He now faces charges for impersonating a public servant.

Temple University quickly responded, placing Steigelmann on interim suspension and making it clear that impersonating law enforcement is not only against school policy but also a crime. “This behavior and harassment of Temple community members will not be tolerated,” the university said in a statement, adding that students involved in such actions could face expulsion.

Both Temple University Police and the Philadelphia Police Department are investigating the case.

The incident comes just days after the university reassured students that neither Temple’s Department of Public Safety nor Philadelphia Police had received any reports of ICE agents on campus. That statement was released following increased concerns about immigration enforcement under then-President Donald Trump’s administration.
