A young mother from Tennessee has been convicted of murdering her 15-month-old daughter and hiding her body in a playhouse on family property—a crime that could keep her behind bars for the rest of her life.
Megan Boswell, 23, was found guilty by a Sullivan County jury on multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated child neglect. She had pleaded not guilty and chose not to testify in her defense.
The heartbreaking case began in December 2019 when little Evelyn Boswell was last seen. Her disappearance sparked a frantic search that lasted months, but in March 2020, investigators made a devastating discovery—Evelyn’s remains were found inside a playhouse on a family member’s property.
Authorities charged Megan with her daughter’s murder in August 2020, but throughout the investigation, she repeatedly changed her story. At a press conference that year, Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy expressed frustration, saying Megan’s version of events shifted every time she spoke with police.
In court, a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent testified that Megan had once claimed Evelyn died while co-sleeping, but that statement turned out to be false.
After closing arguments wrapped up on Wednesday, the jury took just over four hours to reach a verdict. On Thursday, they sentenced Megan to life in prison with the possibility of parole, sparing her a harsher punishment of life without parole.
The tragic case has left many shaken, as a mother’s lies and deception led to the heartbreaking loss of an innocent child.
